On the basis of a cohort of approximately 790 survivors of the Holocaust (Nazi Germany’s war against the Jews) who became Displaced Persons (DPs) in occupied Germany and were resettled in northern New Jersey (Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties) following World War II, the project aims to build auser-friendly and web-accessible databasethat will serve as a prototype for expansion and further study. In terms of content, in contrast to most studies about the Holocaust that focus on the persecution, suffering and annihilation of its victims, “Paths of Survival and Resettlement: Holocaust Survivors in Northern New Jersey, 1945-1954,” is about survival and rebirth.
